Top 5 Things to do on Gameday in Auburn

#1: Meet the team at Tiger Walk

Dating back all the way to the 1960s when a group of children took the streets of campus to get high fives and autographs from Auburn football players and coaches, Tiger Walk is one of Auburn football’s most established traditions. To this day, fans decked out in orange and blue line the streets of Heisman Drive from the Athletics Complex down Donahue Drive and into Jordan-Hare Stadium two hours before every home game. Accompanied by the Auburn University dance team, danceline, cheerleaders, and marching band, they cheer on the Auburn players and coaches.

#2: Watch the Eagle Flight

Perhaps the most unique Auburn football tradition is the pre-game eagle flight over Jordan-Hare Stadium. Regardless of whether or not the myth of the Alabama Civil War veteran and his 30-year-old eagle at the 1892 Auburn v. Georgia game is true, eagles have without a doubt become icons of Auburn University. For a few moments before every home football game, fans rally in a united cry of “War Eagle” as War Eagle VIII, a golden eagle named Aurea, circles Jordan-Hare Stadium during a pre-game flight.

#3: Roll Toomer’s Corner

Auburn fans and students join together at the intersection of College Street and Magnolia Avenue to celebrate Auburn football victories by rolling the trees on Toomer’s Corner. The tradition can be credited to the employees of Toomer’s Drugstore in the 1960s who would throw telegraph paper over the power lines to alert the city of an Auburn football win. Although the telegraph paper has been substituted for toilet paper over the years, the tradition lives on.

#4: Participate in Pre-game Cheers

Although most every university has individualized chants and cheers for their sports teams, there’s no doubt Auburn fans will agree that theirs are the best. Whether they be chanting “rah rah rah sis boom bah” in Bodda Getta or serenading their university with Glory Glory to Ole Auburn, Auburn football fans embody the Auburn spirit through their chants and cheers during pre-game, and the effects of their participation can be felt throughout the game.

#5: Tailgate on Campus

A clear sign of football season is a blanket of white tents spread across Auburn’s campus, bringing the Auburn Family together. Fans bring a sense of wit and pride to their tailgates by giving them clever names like “Stop by for 0:01,” an ode to the 2013 Iron Bowl in which Auburn beat Alabama with just one second on the clock, or “Weagle’s Nest,” a play on the lyrics of Auburn’s chant Bodda Getta. The tailgates’ clever names, however, are only a portion of what makes them so special.
